I spent yesterday sorting through images of John's work to accompany his obituary. And it reminded me yet again of what a remarkable eye he had for colour, form and texture - a skill that he could apply to any medium. Which suggests that it all came so easily to him. Yet I've never known anyone to work so tirelessly to push himself to the very limits of his ability: never the one to settle for the easy option. A lesson to us all.

john hinchcliffe 1949-2010
It is with a profound sense of shock and an extremely deep feeling of sadness that I heard that John passed away at 3am this morning.
John, I know you won't be reading this, since the internet really is not your thing. But you will have someone keeping an eye out for you, I'm sure. And I hope that they will tell you that the greatest tribute that I can pay is that I can call you a very dear friend.
