Not very far, actually. Because it's all over - at least for the time being. He's got compression syndrome in his left ankle, apparently, and isn't allowed to walk again for at least four weeks.
Marcus - a few words of advice, if I may: before you start off again there are two Ps that are well worth considering. The first is Preparation: if you'd practised enough beforehand you'd have realised that first pair of glasses would be too heavy to wear day in and day out. The second is Pacing: 40km was not a sensible distance for your first day.
Not that I'm trying to discourage you. But just bear in mind that old climbing adage: the challenge is to you, not to the mountain.

Hello David. Blimey you've been busy (and it's been ages).
I've just had a look through the stuff you've been writing and some of it really made me chuckle; which is good because I've been feeling a bit miserable ... but I'm starting to feel a little bit feisty again.
I'd actually done quite a bit of preparation for the walk (which is why I had 2 spare pairs of glasses with me). The 40km (it was a bit more actually) was a challenge but was emotionally important to me because it got me outside of the city limits of Munich. After that I paced myself. I felt really good which is why I'm so angry with my bloody ankle. I slipped and twisted it and one thing led to another.
I made a promise to Eva that if I hurt myself I would pause the walk and this is what I have done. It would have been insane to carry on as I would have damaged my lower leg and ankle quite seriously.
This isn't over. When I get the all clear from the doctor I go back to the point where I was picked up and carry on.
Many, many thanks for following the walk.
warm regards from Munich,
Marcus.
