David’s scalpel immediately reminded me of my chopping board which I bought when I was an art student (1977). A brief impression: Talking Heads and Centre Pompidou.
In fact I was visiting the first exhibition in the Piano-Rogers creature: Marcel Duchamp. As if it were yesterday. It made a deep impression on me.
On the same trip I bought this beechwood chopping board at ‘Dehillerin’ in Paris. It is still with me. Its surface is a topography of recieving the cutting blade a million times. Maybe more. Some days the parsley green leaves traces. Once a hot pan imprinted a perfect circle on the other side. Deeply impressed.
